Verdict of the Week

Police Targets

A recent report suggests that Britain is losing the respect it used to have for the police force. The three main reasons for this are obvious to any of the general public that they are supposed to serve: A lack of police on the street: A mostly honest and hard working force being tied up in endless paperwork, pointless forms and beaurocracy: And lastly, a ridiculous system of Government requirements that force the police to meet crazy targets.

This means that police can hit their targets just as well by tackling soft crime like children's graffiti, teenage smoking, stealing a flower from a garden in exactly the same points system as they would if they had convicted a murderer. The eCourt team has a very high regard for the rank and file officers, many of whom put their lives at risk on a regular basis, but this system distorts the priorities of most of the good officers and makes it easy for the bad or just plain lazy ones.

The eCourt Verdict on this is a simple one: Scrap police targets and bring back common sense.
